William R. Gates

GATES, William R., 67, of Moundsville, W.Va. died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Reynolds Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 15, 1945, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Frank and Cecilia (Sustersic) Gates. He American Legion post 3, and the Moundsville VFW 437. He also served in the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines. He loved sitting on the bench in front of the Moundsville Eagles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half sister, Virginia.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Janet (Tom) Vickers of Glen Dale, W.Va.; four children, Matthew Gates of Wheeling, Allyson Gates of Moundsville, David (Amy) Gates of Moundsville, and Jeremy Gates of Moundsville; one brother, Jerry Gates of Shadyside, Ohio; one granddaughter, Chloe Payne of Moundsville; and a special friend, Honus Conner.

A memorial gathering will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 from 10 am until the time of memorial service at 11 am with Rev. Ranjan Ekka officiating at the CARE Funeral Home, 1500 2nd Street, Moundsville, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Marshall County Animal Shelter, 37 Animal Shelter Dr., Moundsville, WV 26041
