Gifts & Memorial Donations

Victor Bernardi, Sr., 84, of Canton, OH formerly of St. Clairsville, OH died peacefully Friday, March 8, 2019 at home with his family. He was born August 30, 1934 in Avella, PA a son of the late Silvio and Rose De Felice Bernardi.

Victor was a retired Shift Foreman for Consol Coal Company in Cadiz, OH., a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church, Weyer Lodge 541, Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret 32 Degree, Eagles Aries 2370 of Canton, and a U.S. Army Veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Mae Bernardi in 2015; several brothers and sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Surviving are his son, Victor (Jackie) Bernardi, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Tina (Curt) Mayle of Canton; grandchildren, Selena (Drew Howard) Peterson, Tony Peterson and Victor Bernardi, III; step-grandchildren, Kristen and Josh (Kara) Mayle; step great-grandchildren, Jay, Allie and Jack Mayle who affectionally called him Grandpa “Bic”.

Victor loved playing cards (especially 31), hunting and fishing, gathering mushrooms, winemaking, cooking, debating politics (he was always right whether he was a Democrat or Republican at the time). He also loved coal mining and the men he worked with. He had 41 years in the mines and 70 years of talking about it.
After they retired, he and Evelyn loved going to the “The Track” to eat, socialize and play the slots machines. He loved to eat, especially at Coleman’s Fish Market and Mehlman’s Cafeteria. He was an excellent gardener and took great pride in his vegetables. He shared them generously with neighbors, family, friends and many people in assisted living. But most of all, Vic had a great love for his wife Evelyn and his family. He was a kind, vibrant, generous, wonderful man with a huge personality and great positive attitude. He was one of a kind and will be missed each and every day.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 1pm until time of funeral service at 3 pm at Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists 204 West Main Street St. Clairsville, OH with Life Celebrant Gary Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
