Sarah E. Shields, 90 of East Liverpool passed away Monday, December 1, 2015 at Calcutta Health Care following a brief illness.
She was born in Elkins, West Virginia on January 27, 1925 a daughter to the late Thomas & Minnie (Coon) Poe. Sarah lived most of her life in this area working as a cake decorator for Smith’s Bakery. She was Protestant by faith, a member of the Tri-State Bowling League and the Triangle Seniors.
She is survived by a son: Michael Smith of Lisbon, OH; a daughter: Connie Scott and her husband Roy of Calcutta, OH; a sister: Della Ware of JR, WV; grandchildren: Ryan Smith, Stacey and Matt Cilone, Derek Smith, Alexa Smith, Christie Grafton, Kevin Scott and his wife, Kristen, and Troy Scott and his wife, Kristen,; great grandchildren: Josh, Jessica, Hayden and Owen Grafton, Jordan Smith, Chase Smith, Nathaniel Scott, Garrett Scott, Sydney Call, Kensington Scott and Karoline Scott and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Olaf G. Smith and her second husband James K. Shields; five brothers: Charlie, Ira, Frank, Edger A. and Robert Poe and two sisters: Pearl Golden and Mary Koontz.
Family services were held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Saturday, December 5th, 2015 at 12 noon with Rev. Val Vies of the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial followed at the United Presbyterian Cemetery of Calcutta.
