Robert “Brass” Jennings Beresford of Wellsville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday May 8, 2019 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Wellsville on October 11, 1925 a son to the late Harry R. and Anna Pearl (Metsch) Beresford. Living his entire life in this area, he was a 1944 graduate of Wellsville High School and was employed as a Sheriff for the Columbiana County Sheriff’s office before retiring in 1984. Brass was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving during both WWII and the Korean War during the Battle on Okinawa and attended the Covenant Presbyterian Church.
He is survived at home by his wife Bonny M. (Betts) Beresford whom he married May 1, 1954; two sons: Kevin Beresford and his wife Joann of East Liverpool, OH and Betts Beresford and his wife Lora of New Albany, OH; two daughters: Ann Brantingham and her husband Willie of Winona, OH and Amie Hartman and her husband Terry of Carrollton, OH; grandchildren: Joey Beresford, Dalton Vanderpool, Sierra Beresford, George and Bobbie Jo Brantingham, Julie Brantingham, Jimi Brantingham, Jenny and Kimberlyn Brantingham, Carrie and Joe Frankford, Tiffanie and Kevan Grimm and Brittanie Hartman and thirteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother: Harry John Beresford and two sisters: Ruth Leona Beighley and Mary Virginia Beresford.
Services will be held at Care Funeral and Cremation Specialist-MacLean Chapel in Wellsville, OH on Friday May 10, 2019 at 4pm with Rick Stanley of Covenant Presbyterian officiating. The Wellsville Masonic Lodge will conduct Masonic services and the Tristate veterans burial group will accord military honors. Burial will take place in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Wellsville Chapel on Friday from 1pm up until the time of service at 4 pm.
The Beresford family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the Community Hospice for all the loving care they provided.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Masonic Lodge #180 which may be made at the funeral home.
