Gifts & Memorial Donations

August 25, 2020 A memorial service honoring the life of Peggy Jane (Wolfe) Ferguson of Old Fredericktown Rd. will be held Saturday, Sept. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Maclean Altmeyer Funeral Home, Calcutta Chapel. Friends may call between noon and the beginning of services. Peggy, 62, passed away Monday, Aug. 24 following complications from spinal surgery at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. She is survived by her loving children, Michael W. (Holly) Ferguson and Sarah E. Ferguson, and adoring husband of 41 years, William E. Ferguson, all of Calcutta. She is also survived by her beloved grandson, Liam, age 2. Peggy was born Nov. 2, 1957 in Webster Springs, WVa. She was the daughter of Bonnie E. (McCartney) Wolfe of Boardman and the late Robert N. Wolfe. She spent much of her childhood on Point Mountain with her dear grandmother before moving to Ohio. She was the eldest of four and, in addition to her mother, is survived by sister Lisa J. Wolfe, Canfield, brothers Scott (Sheila) Wolfe, Struthers, and Dennis R. (Courtney) Wolfe, Stuart, FL. She is deeply missed by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. All her life, Peggy valued family and time spent together. She often said that her greatest accomplishment in life was raising her two children, of whom she was incredibly proud. She gladly supported them through all their pursuits, traveling for horse shows, band trips, and soccer tournaments. Peggy overwhelmingly put others first, wanting happiness for her loved ones above all else. Her generous spirit and compassionate heart are greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Peggy graduated from Beaver Local High School in 1975 and earned a Bachelor of History Degree from Kent State University in 1991. She went on to earn a teaching certificate from University of Mount Union in 1995. She worked as a substitute teacher in Beaver Local Schools for many years. Peggy loved the beauty of nature, especially the colors of fall foliage. She enjoyed hiking as a young woman and spent a great deal of time hiking the Colorado Rockies. She and Bill married Aug. 31, 1979 in Winchester, Va. and continued adventuring together. The views of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, particularly in the fall, were among her favorite experiences. Later, she would take her children on hiking outings in Beaver Creek State Park. She grieved her limited mobility in later years, but she still joined her family and grandson outside, and she enjoyed taking him on walks in the stroller when she was able. Peggy was a lifelong animal lover, most comfortable with a dog by her side. Among her other joys were 49ers football, Kent State Golden Flashes, John Denver, and traveling the country with her husband and family. Her favorite destinations were those rich with history, but no matter where, Peggy found the most happiness when she was surrounded by her family. Peggy cherished collecting “Precious Moments,” both the collectible figurines and generating her own. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Columbiana County or the American Diabetes Association in Peggy’s honor.
