Naomi Gooch, 95 of Wellsville passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at East Liverpool City Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Graysville, Alabama on December 21, 1921, a daughter of the late Edmond Parker and Edith (Ingram) Parker. Naomi lived most of her life in this area working as a teacher’s aide for Steubenville Schools and as a hairdresser. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wellsville, OH and Mt. Zion Church in Steubenville, OH serving as a deaconess and church mother, the Willing Workers Club, President of Ohio Valley Missionary, Board of Metropolitan Housing in Jefferson County and Community Aid. Naomi also ran the Hampton House for the elderly and handicapped.
She is survived by four sons: Charles “Marlon” McCuen of Bloomingdale, OH, Terry McCuen and his wife Vicki of Wellsville, OH, Horace Hampton Jr. and his wife Danita of Steubenville, OH and David Hampton of Atlanta, GA and six step children: Gretchen, Rebecca, Cynthia, Crystal, Gwen and Rev. Gregory Gooch; as well as, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Keith “Zapatha” McCuen; two brothers: Bill Parker and Ed Lee Parker; five sisters: Lucille Ramson, Rosie Crayton, Mirdes Jameson, Mary Odessa Adams and Alice Maskelly; her first husband: Horace Hampton Sr. and her second husband: Henry Gooch.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Wellsville on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11 with Pastor Darren Rogers and Rev. Roosevelt Thompson officiating. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Steubenville.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Wellsville First Baptist Church on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 4-7pm.
