Gifts & Memorial Donations

Nancy Bentley Murray, of Wellsville, OH, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Mercy Hospital.  Nancy was born in East Liverpool on January 6, 1947, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Margaret (Jenkins) Bentley. She was a 1965 graduate of Southern Local High School and resided in the area her entire life.  She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church of Wellsville.

Nancy married Willis Murray on November 27, 1965, and from their union, two sons were born.  Nancy and Willis spent 53 years together until his death on April 13, 2018.

Nancy held several civil service positions throughout her lifetime.  She was employed for approximately 16 years with the Department of Human Services in Lisbon, OH.  She later began working in the office of the Auditor in East Liverpool; eventually Nancy became a member of Wellsville City Council; and finally, her most notable career, as the current Mayor of the Village of Wellsville, where she was serving her second term.  She was very accomplished in this position and was most proud of leading the village out of fiscal emergency, and doing so in the middle of the COVID-19 world health crisis.  Nancy loved Wellsville and poured her heart into her work as well as the people of her community.

Above everything, Nancy loved her family.  Her greatest joy were her four grandchildren.  She loved spending time with them while watching them grow into caring, compassionate adolescents who show the same loving family values she so openly displayed.

Left behind to cherish her memory are: her sons, Anthony (Michelle) Murray, of Galena, OH and Justin (Michelle) Murray, of Charlotte, NC; her four beloved grandchildren: Arianna, Gabriella, Rocco, and Santino; she also leaves behind her sister, Irene Bonidie, of St. Augustine, FL.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by: her infant granddaughter, Margaret; two brothers: David and Lloyd Bentley; and sister, Mary Ruth Lamarra.

Visitation will take place from 1PM-7PM,  Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists- MacLean Chapel in Wellsville.  The funeral will follow at 7PM .  Burial will take place in St Elizabeth Cemetery in Wellsville.

As Pastor of Lee's Chapel AME Church, 1325 Center Street, Wellsville, Ohio, I submit the congregation's condolence to the family, friends, and fellow workers of Nancy Murray, the most recent mayor of the village of Wellsville, Ohio. Nancy loved all with whom she came in contact. She will most certainly be missed in this world by family, acquaintances, and brothers and sisters in Christ. May we all keep the memory of Nancy in our hearts and all that she did to help improve the Village of Wellsville. She's absent from the body but present with the Lord.

So sorry for your loss. I was shocked when I read about Nancy as was my family. Sad because this world lost a fabulous lady. I loved my cousin. I used to spend summers in Wellsville as a young girl with my mammaw (julia parsley). Nancy and her sisters used to include me in everything going on and there was always something going on. I felt loved and I felt blessed to be a part of this family. I'll always remember the laughter and ill forever feel the love. Always have the memories from my teenage years. What a beautiful, caring and out going personality she will be missed by all who were lucky to have known her. God bless you all sorry we couldn't make it there to offer up a hug but know that you are in our thoughts and prayers
