Gifts & Memorial Donations

Nancy Lee (Gessford) Winters, 84, went to be with the Lord, and to be reunited with the love of her life, Albert Winters, on August 28, 2023.  She passed away at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Nancy was a vibrant person who never met a stranger.  She was a wonderful vocalist having sung with the E.L.C.H. Choir and Madrigals.  She also had the lead role in the play “Oklahoma” her senior year of high school.  She sang with Bobby Vinton in and around Pittsburgh, PA.  She was a member of “The American Ballroom Dance Band”.  She was director of the children’s choir called “Rainbows and Lollipops”, of the former Rainbow Fellowship Church.  Most of her grandkids were members and loved to sing with Nana. Nancy was a talented seamstress, making several outfits for her granddaughters.  She also made several outfits for herself and waterproof purses.

She worked at Milliron’s, The Harmony House (which is where she met the love of her life, Albert), the former Hills Department Store, Scafide’s Market on Ambrose Avenue, and the Bridal Shop, formerly in Ogilvie’s Plaza.  Her greatest joy was working as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at East Liverpool City Hospital and several other hospitals and nursing homes around this area and in Erie, PA.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents, Leroy Edgar “Frenchy” and Florence Rosanne (Rhoades) Gessford; her first husband, Harry Howard McLaughlin; two sons: Michael A. McLaughlin, and Matthew Winters.  Also preceding her was her brother, Robert L. Gessford; granddaughter, Annie Rose McLaughlin; and son-in-law, Roderick “Rick” Perkins.

Surviving are: her sons, Harry (Susan) Winters, and Jeffrey (Amy) McLaughlin; her daughter, Nancy Lee Perkins; two brothers: Kenneth (Vicki) Gessford, and James (Fern) Gessford, and sister-in-law, Joann Gessford.  The loves of her life, her grandchildren: Nicholas Turkaly, Heather (Adam) Murphy, Kayla (Chase) Capito, Whitney (Jacob) Logan, Matthew (Alisha) McLaughlin, and Katelyn McLaughlin.  Her greatest joy, her great-grandchildren: Noah, Isaac, Addison, and Aiden Murphy, Conor Capito, Levi Logan, Kennedy, Trey, and Taylor McLaughlin, and Kayleigh and Caydence Wright.

The family would like to thank her friends and neighbors, Mary and John Watson, for their help with her care.  She, and we, greatly appreciated all you did, and Buckeye Hospice for such wonderful and prompt help.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1PM, at Columbiana County Memorial Park, 16078 Irish Ridge Road, East Liverpool, 43920.  A time of fellowship and food will follow at Northside Church, 702 Orchard Grove Avenue, East Liverpool, with further fellowship to follow at the V.F.W. Post #66, 212 Blakely Street, East Liverpool.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to Buckeye Hospice.
