McCardle, Gilbert “Gib” Alton, 75 of Wheeling, WV passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Wheeling Medical Park.
He was born on January 23, 1938 in Limestone, WV the son of the late Henry Alton and Dorothy Gray McCardle.
Gib was a coal miner for Valley Camp #1 and #3, Christian by faith, member of the American Legion in Piney Fork, OH, member of the Wednesday night AA Group, via Simpson United Methodist Church and a US Navy and Army Veteran.
In addition to his parents, Gib was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Lohr and Norma, and a brother, Robert McCardle.
He is survived by his life partner and wife of 30 years, Shirley Williams McCardle of Wheeling; five children, Roger (Dianne) McCardle of Cache, OK, Richard (Ginny) McCardle of Wheeling, Rodney McCardle of Warwood, Deborah (Donald) Waddell of Wheeling and Lance (Julie) Williams of Indiana, PA; three sisters, Patsy (Gary) McGlumphy of Dallas, WV, Vickie (Tom) Coffield of McMechen, WV and Charlene Huff of Fredricks Town, PA; two brothers, Bill (Virginia) McCardle of Dallas, WV and Kenny McCardle of Wheeling; fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Rhonda McCardle of Wheeling.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday January 11, 2014 from 12 until the time of service at 1pm at CARE Funeral & Cremation Service, 1500 Second Street, Moundsville, with Rev. Glen Baker Jr. officiating.
