Gifts & Memorial Donations

Margaret Elone Lane, 94, formerly of Church Street, Calcutta, Ohio went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 3, 2021 from complications due to Covid.

She was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on May 2, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Lawrence Pethtel and Iva (Hastings) Pethtel. Living all her life in the area, she graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1944 and worked from 1944 to 1946 during World War II at the Office Price Administration in support of the war effort.

On October 4, 1946 she married the love of her life, Rev. Harry J. Lane, who preceded her in death on January 14, 2011. Together they built the Prayer Temple Tabernacle and devoted their lives to serving God through their church ministry, tent revivals, camp meetings, and city-wide campaigns overseas. Margaret was the Head Secretary and Organist/Pianist at Prayer Temple all the while organizing and working tirelessly beside her husband to further God’s mission within the church and community. She was also an avid traveler with her husband and twice visited the Holy Lands in Israel and Jerusalem, as well as serving as a missionary in Haiti, Jamaica, and Nicaragua. Having a deep love for music, she also played the accordion at one time. Upon her husband’s retirement and lengthy illness, Margaret became employed with Walmart in Calcutta as a door-greeter from 1991-2002.

She will be dearly missed by her 5 surviving children. Two daughters: Sandra Lee Cochran and her late husband Jack of Beverly Hills, Florida and Jerry Ann Cusick and her husband, Kenneth of Lisbon, OH. Three sons: Harry Stephen Lane and wife, Michele of Alliance, OH; John Lawrence Lane and wife, Patty of San Diego, CA; and Mark Allen Lane and wife, Marilu of Falls Church, VA. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Robert Millhorn, Sr. of East Liverpool, OH. One daughter, Mary Margaret Millhorn, preceded her in death.

In addition, Margaret has eleven grandchildren: Tracy, Kimberly, Amy, Douglas, Bobby, Stephen, Joshua, Adam, Sabrina, Amanda, and Christopher; as well as 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, one brother, James Gaylord Pethtel, and one sister, Joyce Oyster preceded her in death.

Margaret’s endless love and caring for others enabled her to open her home and provide a hot meal and fellowship to any and all that visited no matter the time or day. Her love, devotion, and faithfulness to her Lord and family are eternal and have sustained her throughout her life: “…so I’ll cherish the old rugged cross; till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross; and exchange it someday for a crown.”

Services will be held on Friday, January 8th at 1pm at the Martin Chapel of the Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta, Ohio with Pastor Mark Blakeley of Wellsville First Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm. Burial will take place at Calcutta United Presbyterian Cemetery.

I wish I had more time with you Grandma, I really do. Despite this, I will always remember and appreciate the moments I have had with you. But you're at peace with grandpa now. and for that I am glad. For as Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die" (John 11:25-26). I love you Grandma, we all do.
