Larry M. Sams, 73, of Wellsville, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from complications of COVID-19. Larry was born in Parkersburg, WV on December 16, 1948, the son of the late Clifford and Nora (Cobb) Sams. He attended Parkersburg High School and graduated with the Class of 1967.
After graduation Larry joined the United States Marine and served two tours in Vietnam from 1967-1969. Larry married the love of his life, Mary O’Neill on December 20, 1969 and from their union, two sons were born. Larry was an avid Browns fan and could be found most football Sundays sitting in his chair with his dogs cheering on his team. Larry also enjoyed camping. He and Mary would load up the camper and visit campsites throughout Ohio, WV, and PA. Larry also enjoyed playing cards with the family, and always seemed to win when he was the score keeper!! He was a member of the Wellsville VFW 5647 and the Wellsville Eagles 772
Those left behind to cherish his memory are: his wife, Mary Sams, and his son, Larry (Toni) Sams, of Canfield, OH; and his twin brother, Gary (Mary Lou) Sams, of Parkersburg, WV. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Larry also leaves behind his loyal dogs, Max and Schultz, who will miss sitting in his recliner with him.
Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his son, Mark Sams, who passed away February 6, 2017; and his siblings, Texanna O’Neill, and Curtis Sams.
Visitation will take place at Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists- MacLean Chapel on Riverside Ave, Wellsville on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 2PM-4PM. Funeral service will follow at 4PM with Pastor Dirk Hall from The Living Well Church officiating. The Tri-State Burial Group will be present to accord full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations in Larry’s name be made to: Mary Jo Volino who operates Privileged Pets at 44022 10th Street Extension, Wellsville, OH 43968.
