John Howard McCauley

John Howard “Howdy” McCauley, 95, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2023 at the Orchards in Chester, WV. surrounded by his family.  He was born on November 18, 1927, to the late Charles Floyd and Mary (Moreland) McCauley, in Bowerston, OH.

John worked two jobs for many years to provide for his family of seven children.  He worked as a brick mason, laying concrete block foundations for homes, 8 hours a day, and then worked the afternoon shift as a kiln fireman at the former Wellsville China Co., in Wellsville, OH.  He then began a career as a truck driver, transitioning from hauling coal to hauling steel.  He bought his own tractor trailer rig in the 60’s and hauled steel all over the mid-western USA, until he retired in 1987.

Someone once said “hard work never hurt anyone”, and our 95 year old father proved that statement to be true. Thank you, dad, for instilling in all of us, a great work ethic, and for always being there for us.

John was preceded in death by: his wife of over 60 years, Flora Ruth (Fuller) McCauley, who passed away in 2010.  He was also preceded by a son, Stephen Michael McCauley, in 1976, and his daughter, Pamela JoAnn (McCauley) Allison in May, 2023.

Survivors include four sons: Ron (Gail) McCauley, and Gary McCauley, of East Liverpool, OH, Kevin McCauley, of Chester, WV, and Gregg (Lana) McCauley, of Wadsworth, OH; and one daughter, Marsha (Bruce) Larson, of Dubuque, IA.  Also left to cherish his memory are 18 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.

Friends may visit Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists- Martin Chapel, in Calcutta, from 1PM-2PM on June 19, 2023, where family will be present.  The funeral service will follow at 2PM, and will be officiated by Pastor Dan Hanny.  Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.  The service will be delayed live streamed and can be viewed 2 hours after service time by visiting www.carechapel.com and accessing John’s tribute page.
