Joseph “Joe” Gonchoff, A.K.A. “Ray”, 90, of Moundsville, WV, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Stonerise Nursing Home, Moundsville.

He was born May 21, 1931 in Moundsville, a son of the late Steve and Anna (Gajor) Kielbasa Gonchoff. He was the co-owner and operator of the former Frank & Joe’s Shell Service Station, Moundsville; a Catholic by faith; avid Pittsburgh Steelers and WV Mountaineer fan and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was preceded in death by his six brothers, Bernard, Michael, John, Albert and Edward “Eddie” Kielbasa, and brother & best friend, Frank Gonchoff; sisters, Anna Mysliwiec and Regina Gonchoff; nephew, Joe Gonchoff; niece, Andrea Filter; a special niece whom took care of him in the past years, Dianna Wallace and his caregiver for most of his life, Mary Gonchoff.

Surviving are his sister, Mildred Mysliwiec of Moundsville, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Joe was a second father to many of his nieces and nephews, he will be forever missed and they were blessed to have had him in their lives for so many years.

Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Friday, at CARE Funeral Home, 1500 Second Street, Moundsville, where services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, February 26, 2022. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, with full military honors provided by the Moundsville Veteran’s Honor Guard.

    So sorry to learn of Joe's passing; may God's love comfort the family in this difficult time. I stopped by the service station regularly "back in the day". I remember pulling Joe's car out of the mud when he lived in the old Lute's house and he offered to pay me; but I told him I was merely a neighbor helping a neighbor. (The way it used to be!)
