James “Jim” Herbert Ater Jr., 65, of Moundsville, WV passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.He was born February 14, 1952, in Glen Dale WV, son of the late James Herbert Ater Sr. and Lois  (Lawther) Ater.Jim was a retired truck driver, a US Army Viet Nam War Veteran, who loved to fish, camp and bar-b-que. He was also an avid WVU football fan.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie Burkey, Rebecca Riggs and Christy Van Dyne.Jim is survived by his loving wife, of 33 years, Karen (Stern) Ater of Moundsville; three daughters, Susan Cooley , Jamie (Rodger) Anderson and Carrie (Kevin) Kimple , all of Moundsville; sister, Mary Miles of New Martinsville, WV; four grandchildren, James Anderson, Zoe Cooley, Ariel Cooley and Ian Cooley all of Moundsville and several nieces and nephews.Family and friends will be received Wednesday, December 20, 2017, from  2-4 pm and  6-8 pm and again on Thursday, December 21 from 11 am until time for service at 1 pm at CARE FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, 1500 Second Street, Moundsville with Reverend Kenny Hardway, officiating.Interment will follow after funeral at Halcyon Hills Memorial Park & Mausoleum.
