James “Jim” Allen Cornell, 69, of East Liverpool passed away on April 3, 2022 at East LIverpool City Hospital unexpectedly. Jim was born in Newell, WV on April 18, 1952, the son of the late Allen Cornell and Ruth Butcher (Cornell) Henry and Earl Henry. He was a graduate of Wellsville High School Class of 1970. At 11 years of age, Jim started his work career at Reynold Poultry folding boxes, he then worked at TS&T Pottery, Midland Steel Mill and he was the owner/operator of Cornell Home Improvements. He then went on to be responsible for all of the Princess Lodges in Alaska. Jim retired in 2012
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Hanlon, on July 14, 1971 and spent the next 50 years making memories with her. Jim and Barbara moved from the area in 1984 and spent 28 years living in Fairbanks, AK.
Jim was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Wellsville. He donated much of his time to serving his church as well as the members of his community. His gift was serving others and because of this, he eased the burdens of many.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are: his wife, Barbara Cornell; his son: Jim Cornell, of Grants, New Mexico, and daughter, Chris Cornell, of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren: Jimmy (Sandra) Cornell, Kameron Cornell, Katlin Cornell, and Ryan Cornell; two great-grandchildren, Aron and Bryson Cornell. He also leaves behind three sisters: Linda (Jim) Cotch, Helen (Keith) Conley, and Barbara Thompson; and his sister-in-law, Michelle Cornell.
Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Cornell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 3PM-5PM, at Wellsville First Christian Church, 831 Main Street, Wellsville, OH. The memorial service will follow at 5PM with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations in Jim’s name be made to: Wellsville First Christian Church.
