J. Joel Lawrence, 77 of Wellsville, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Trinity West in Steubenville, OH after an extended illness.
He was born on June 30, 1939 in New Somerset, OH a son to the late Raymond E. and Violet (Williamson) Lawrence. Joel lived his entire life in this area, was a 1957 graduate of Jefferson Union High School, worked as a carpenter for Weirton Steel before retiring after 35 years and was a member of New Hope Community Church. He also was a member of the Eagle Lodge #772, the VFW #5647 in Wellsville and the Wellsville SOI #361.
He is survived by his wife Vivian (Clark) Jackson-Lawrence whom he married January 4, 1974; seven sons: Jody Lawrence and his wife Jackie of Wellsville, Rafford Lawrence and his wife Lori of Wellsville, Chuck Jackson and his wife Valarie of Bethlehem, KY, Tom Jackson and his companion Lisa of Beaver Falls, PA, Mike Jackson and his wife Shelley of Beaver Falls, PA, Luke Jackson and his wife Sandy of Boardman, OH and John Jackson and his wife Karen of Moorehaven, FL; two daughters: Melissa Board and her husband Joe of Toronto, OH and Eva Binder and her husband Mark of Washingtonville, OH; a brother: Calvin “Bud Lawrence of Toronto, OH; two sisters: Bonnie Mills of Beaver Falls, PA and Michelle Allen of Irondale, OH along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Jackie Jackson and a sister: Dixie Wiatt.
Services will be held at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Dan Crowe of Irondale United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place in Hammondsville Cemetery.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Wellsville Funeral Home on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M.
