Gregory “Pops” “GV” Virden, Sr., of East Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at East Liverpool City Hospital from complications of COVID-19

Greg was born in East Liverpool, Ohio to David and Alice (Steiner) Virden on October 14th, 1969. He lived in the area his whole life, graduating from East Liverpool High School in 1988. In July of 1990, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, LaVerna, who he was with for 34 years, doing everything together including starting a family, having fun, and making happy memories. In 1997, Greg started working at Homer Laughlin China Company in Newell, WV, where he continued to work for over 25 years.

Aside from enjoying his work, Greg had many other hobbies. He found his passion in music, and was always listening to something. When he wasn’t listening to music, he was making it himself as a singer in the band Junkhead. He was also a tattoo artist. He loved having fun, and did so often. He was always going for a ride, whether it was on his Harley or on a dirt bike. Greg was also an outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, boating, and camping, and he was never afraid of getting his hands dirty. There was never anything that he couldn’t do.  He always worked hard and got the job done.  Greg also loved teaching his tattoo and music skills to his son, nieces and nephews.

What Greg enjoyed more than anything was spending time with his family.  He was a loving and caring son, brother, husband, best friend, dad, pap pap , and uncle.  He did everything that he could to support his family. He was also a caring soul, making friends everywhere. He never met a stranger, and would never miss an opportunity to put a smile on everyone’s face. He was an inspiration to many, and will be dearly missed.

Along with his parents, Greg leaves behind: his wife and best friend of 31 years, LaVerna Virden; his son, Gregory (Jasmine) Virden Jr.; and grandson, Layton Virden, all from East Liverpool.  He is also survived by his brother, David (Tracy) Virden Jr.; and sisters, Hope (Wayne) Poole and Jean (Rob) DeSarro.  Greg also leaves behind LaVerna’s family, whom he loved as his own; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Greg will also be missed by his 9 fur babies.
