Gary Vernon Goode

December 5, 1941 - March 12, 2024

Gary Vernon Goode, 82, of Moundsville, WV, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale with his family by his side. Born on December 5, 1941, in Moundsville, he was the son of the late Robert Vernon Goode and LaVaun “Bonnie” Mildred (Henthorne) Stone.

Gary led a life of service, beginning with his nearly 14 years as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, where he bravely served during the Vietnam War. Following his military career, he worked for 25 years as a coal miner. Gary was also a dedicated member of various organizations, including the Knights of Pythias, American Legion Post 3, Moundsville City Planning Commission, and the Moundsville Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Janet (Anderson) Goode, his children Traci Goode, Trevor (Deanna) Goode, Antonia (Kevin) Porter, and Christopher (Nikole) Howearth, siblings Alan (Andrea) Goode, Tom (Suellen) Elias, and Ruth (Frank) Russell; grandchildren Lauren Daugherty, Cole Goode, Megan Stocklask, Kylie Becker, McKayla Daugherty, Cole Porter, Jasmine Porter, Carly Porter, Ian Porter, Emberly Howearth, Laken Whitlach, Cyrus Howearth, Caleb Richmond and Troy Goode; and great-grandchildren Bentley Bonter and Keegan Huff.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Charles Goode and Timothy Elias, and his sisters Linda Stidd and Sandy Ebey.

Services for Gary will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at CARE Funeral & Cremation Service, 1500 2nd Street, Moundsville. Visitation will take place from 12-2 pm and 4-6 pm, with a funeral service at 6 pm officiated by Pastor CJ Plogger of Ash Avenue Church of God. Full military honors will be rendered.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Gary’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or the Knights of Pythias, Little Prince Lodge No. 79, 119 1/2 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville, WV 26041.

Gary’s care has been entrusted to CARE Funeral & Cremation Service, 1500 2nd Street, Moundsville, WV 26041.
