Gifts & Memorial Donations

Gary R. McCauley died peacefully Saturday morning, October 23, 2021, at home with his wife, Marjorie
at his side.
Gary was born September 3, 1941, the ninth child of twelve to Ben and Ruby McCauley in
Meadowbrook, WV. Gary was raised in a loving family, where his dad worked long hours in the
coal mines and his mother worked just as hard caring for their large family.
Gary played basketball for Shinnston High School and followed his older brothers into the
service by enlisting in the U.S. Navy as an electrician. He served four years from December
1959 – December 1963.
On May 6, 1967, Gary wed Marjorie C. Kovalck of Owings, WV. He worked for the “Steel
Workers” Union with many of his working years being with the E.W. Bliss Company in Salem,
Ohio. Together, he and Marjorie built a home, raised their one daughter, Kelly, and lived a
beautiful life at Lake Tomahawk in Negley, Ohio. Their marriage spanned 54 years. Gary was a
staunch Democrat, loyal “union man”, and loved the game of golf. He also enjoyed his yearly
family vacations to North Myrtle Beach, cruising around in his 2016 cherry red Mazda Miata
convertible, circling the Lake with his wife and grandkids in his battery powered, four-seater
golf cart, and visiting his good pal, Jim Pike at the barbershop in Calcutta.
Surviving him are his loving wife, Marjorie of Negley, Ohio, only daughter and son-in-law, Kelly
Jo, and Patrick Williams of Negley, Ohio, four grandchildren, Garrett, Katelyn, Blake, and
Emmalee Williams of Negley, Ohio, Siblings John W. McCauley (Patti) of Ravenswood, WV, Mary
Ellen Gerwig of Malvern, PA, Charlotte Thomas of Gypsy, WV, Charles W. McCauley of
Meadowbrook, WV, Sister-in-law Lavon McCauley of Ravenswood, WV, and a slew of nieces
and nephews. Preceding him in death are his father and mother, Ben and Ruby McCauley, and
siblings Janice Luciano, Ruby Moyer, Phyllis Long, Benjamin McCauley, Christine Gaines, Opal
Martin, and Avon McCauley.
Gary was extremely proud of his daughter, Kelly and her career as a pharmacist, and cherished
Marjorie’s home cooked dinners with all four grandkids present. He will be sorely missed by his
family.
Visitation will be held from 11am – 1pm, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Care Funeral and
Cremation Specialists – Martin Chapel in Calcutta, Ohio. The funeral will follow at 1pm with
Patrick Williams officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
