Darlene R. Hughes-Shafer, age 71, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, at East Liverpool City Hospital where she was taken after becoming ill.
The daughter of the late Leon and Lois (Dailey) Hughes, Darlene, had lived her entire life in this area. She retired as a Methods Analist for the Hunt Valve Company, retiring in 2012. Mrs. Shafer was a graduate of Wellsville High School, Class of 1965 and attended Kent State University for Two years.
Darlene was an active member of the Wellsville First Christian Church of Wellsville where she was the Financial Secretary, Member of the Yellow Creek Long Rifles, the Beaver Local Football Booster Club, the West Point Little league Baseball, the Wellsville Class of 65 committee, the Wellsville Arts Club, and the 53 Club.
She is survived by her Husband, Roland Shafer, of Wellsville; three sons; Walter (Chris) Eltringham, Randell (Rayette) Eltringham, and Bradley (Shawn) Eltringham. Two daughters; Michelle Frederick and Daphine (John) Hobbs; two Step sons; Robin (Debbie) Shafer and Steve (Cana) Shafer; one brother, Gary (Pat) Hughes and a sister, Nadyn Diezman; 25 grandchildren and 9 great grand children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Hughes.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the First Christian Church of Wellsville with Pastor Mark Blakely of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Highlandtown Cemetery.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home in Calcutta on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and from 11:00 to time of services at the church on Wednesday.
