Cynthia L. ‘Cindy’ Michael

Cynthia L. ‘Cindy’  Michael, 84, of St. Clairsville went home to be with the Lord Monday, April 25, 2022 at her home.

Cindy was born on March 5,1938 in Canton Ohio, the oldest daughter of the late Irving L. and Leota Virginia Heck Griffith.

Cindy was a graduate of Lehman High School, Canton Ohio. She then moved Athens to attend Ohio University where she not only earned her Bachelor’s degree, but also met her future husband, Mike. She held many jobs throughout her life. She was a homemaker, substitute teacher, coach and eventually the bookstore manager at Ohio University Eastern until her retirement in 1999.

Cindy was a Christian by faith and a devoted member of the East Richland Friends Church. She was very active within the church, having served on many committees, including the Steeple Committee and served as an overseer for many years.

She loved to socialize, entertain and hosted many parties at her home. In her later years, she loved to craft, garden, cook and bake. Most of all, her favorite pastime was following her grandchildren around the Ohio Valley, watching them in their various sporting activities, never missing one event. Cindy will be remembered for her faith, hospitality and adoration for her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, C. Richard ‘Mike’ Michael on July 22, 2020 and a sister, Pamela (Ed) Griffith Kuhns.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Rich (Deirdre) Michael and Megan (Ken) Furbee. Four grandchildren; Ken (Hannah Kerksiek) Furbee Jr., Matt (Alecia) Furbee, Michael (Katie Wolfe), and Grace (Dom Wallace) Furbee, two great grandchildren, Bella and Lincoln Furbee, niece; Holly (Mike) Brown, nephew; Oliver Kuhns, special caregiver and friend, Joyce Furbee, her beloved feline companion, Lucille Sassparilla and a host of wonderful friends.

Cindy’s family would like to extend a sincere thank to the staff at Amedisys Hospice for their sincere care and love they offered her at the end of her journey on here on Earth.

A memorial gathering for Cindy will be held on Saturday August 20, 2022 at the East Richland Friends Church from 11am until time of remembrance at 1pm with Reverend Jerry Wenger as celebrant.
