Catherine “Kitty” McCollam, 98 formerly of Wellsville, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Rockville, Maryland on October 22, 1920 a daughter of the late Nathan and Grace (Gather) Stiles. She was a graduate of Rockville High School and received her Bachelor Degree from the University of Maryland. Having lived in many places, Kitty resided in Wellsville for 10 years. She used her love of sewing and cooking to teach Economics at Wellsville High School, and many others. Kitty enjoyed the church social gatherings and sang in the church choir and played the piano. She was a member of the Upper Ohio Valley Ministerial Association and loved keeping in touch with her grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons: Tim McCollam and his wife Linda of Chester, WV, Stephen McCollam and his wife Beverly of Wheeling, WV, Peter McCollam and his wife Regina of Canal Winchester, OH and Michael McCollam of Georgetown, KY; a brother: Stanley Stiles of Charleston, MD; eight grandchildren: Amy Freeman, Kimberly McCollam, Lori Adkins, Catherine (Taffy) Young, Jason McCollam, Peter McCollam, Matthew McCollam and Timothy McCollam and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. James A. McCollam whom she married August 31, 1942; a daughter: Lois Young; six sisters; six brothers and a granddaughter: Christina While.
Services will be held at Riverside Presbyterian Church on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11 AM with Rev. Duane Hetzer of the church officiating. Burial will take place in Yellow Creek Cemetery.
Family will be present to receive friends at the CARE – MacLean Chapel on Riverside Avenue on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM.
