Wednesday, March 25, 2020.
The daughter of the late John and Lois (Donnely) McLaren, Bonnie was born in Cleveland, Ohio on

School, class of 1960. After high school Bonnie received her Bachelors Degree in education from Bowling
Green State University. She furthered her education at West Liberty and West Virginia University where
she received her Masters Degree of Education, plus 45. She began her teaching career at Calcutta
Elementary, but most of her 40 years teaching was at Allison Elementary School in Chester, W.Va. and
retired from there in June 2004.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Jodi Hoppel and her husband Doug of Calcutta. Her son, Curt
Johnston and his wife, Brandy, also of Calcutta and a step daughter, Toni Pastore of Salineville. Bonnie is
also survived by her grandchildren, Chandler Hoppel, Carsyn Hoppel, Chansyn Hoppel, Tanner Johnston
and Taylor Johnston and her two, as she called them, grand kids, Luke Call and Kris Carr and her brother
John R. McLaren of Sarasota, Fl.
Everybody that knew Bonnie, knows that the loves of her life were her grandchildren. Always attending
their sporting events and their extra curricular activities with a huge smile on her face. She was
incredibly proud of each and everyone of them. Not only was she “Nannie” to all her grandchildren, but
also to many of her grand kids friends.
It was Bonnie’s wishes not to have a service or calling hours. She will be entombed at the Calcutta
Cemetery.
The Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home in Calcutta has been entrusted with her arrangements.
