Betty Dornick, age 95, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother went home to Jesus on January 28, 2016 and now enjoys paradise with Him and her loved ones.

She was born in Wellsville, May 1, 1920 the daughter of Charles and Sylvia (Harmon) Piatt. She married her childhood sweetheart Robert F. Dornick on June 15, 1941.  They enjoyed 48 years together until his passing November 18, 1989.  Together they had three children:  Judith A. Miller, with whom she lived, Robert C. Dornick and his wife Evelyn, formally of Wellsville and Alcinda Jane James and her husband Jack of Irondale.

Betty graduated from Wellsville High School in 1938 and attended Ohio University until 1940. She was a devoted wife and mother.  Very active at the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School/Bible School teacher, elder on the session, various offices of the Women’s Association, a member of the choir and church secretary.

Betty taught first aid classes and was a member of Highlandtown Grange, the Crystal Chapter of the Eastern Star for over 70 years. She was also the advisor of the Sunshine Girls 4-H Club for 7 years.

Betty worked at Piatt’s Tea Room and as a meat cutter at Piatt’s Market for 8 years. She sold Avon for 24 years until macular degeneration forced her to quit.

She is survived by her 11 grandchildren: Mark Miller, Matthew Miller, Rachel Miller Dieringer, Larry Miller Jr., Rae Malee Dornick Walsh, Robert J. Dornick, Virginia Dornick Hall, Marcia James Brandt, Deborah James Hale, Alan James and Jeffery James and 26 great grandchildren:  Carson and Mark T. Miller, Shelby and Matthew D. Miller, Elijah and Emma Dieringer, Candy and Mandy Miller, Theron, Eric and Abigail Walsh, Lucas Howell, Valissa Dornick and Madonna Trenholm, Rebekka and Nathanial Hall, Casandra and Bailey Brandt, Alcinda, Rachel, Sylvia and Jackalynn Hale, Lacey and Dean James, Elmer Buckingham and Marlene James.  She was great great grandmother to Adalyn and Grayson.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bob, one granddaughter: Rachel Rebeca James and one brother:  Thomas Noel Piatt.

She will be remembered by all for her love and warmth shown to all her family and friends and for over 380 afghans she crocheted and gave as gifts after becoming blind.

Services will be held at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11 AM with Minister Robert Offendahl of the church officiating along with her grandson-in-law Rev. Ryan Hale. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Family will be present to receive friends at the Wellsville funeral home on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 P.M. and up until the time of service on Monday.

The Lord says, “Let my people return to me. Remove every obstacle from their path!  Build the road and make it ready!”
