Ann Fiutem Swetz, 97, of St. Clairsville passed away on May 6, 2023 at Park Health Center.
Ann was born on 30 November 1925 to the late Eugene and Charlotte (Longo) Fiutem in Maynard Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband George, four sisters, Josephine
Dekoski, Albina Parish, Charlotte Husarik, and Mary Mincin, five brothers, Louis, Angelo, Lawrence,
Albert, and Frank, and one step brother David Cattane.
Ann graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1943 where she played basketball. After high school
she went to work at Hanna Coal Company, where, in 1945 she was crowned Miss Hanna Coal. She later
worked at K’s Market in St. Clairsville.
Ann married her husband George in 1950 and they built a life and a business together. While raising a
family, Ann managed the finances, ordered materials, and designed the interiors for the homes George
constructed. Ann was also a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was on church council
and a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. Ann also enjoyed gardening, knitting, crochet and needlepoint.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Amy Swetz of Belmont Ohio and Tracy Sayre (Jerry) of Belmont Ohio,
sons George (Gigi Girgis) of Waban Massachusetts and Scott (Margaret) of Woodbine Maryland,
grandchildren Dylan (Amanda) Sayre, Renee Swetz (Will Morrison) , Christopher Swetz, Sophie Swetz, Matthew
Swetz, Paul Swetz, Nathan Fusco and Logan Swetz and great grandchildren Raegan and Lukas Sayre.
Ann grew up the youngest of many children during the great depression. Her young experiences taught
her to be resilient, fair, compassionate, and family oriented. Ann advocated for her children and
grandchildren throughout her life, inspiring and encouraging them to do and to be their best. Ann’s
legacy lives on through them.
Family and friends will be received at CARE Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 204 West Main Street St. Clairsville Ohio on Thursday May 11, 2023 from 12 until time of service at 1pm with Father Daniel Heusel officiating. Burial immediately following in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
